World Hydrogen Summit 2026 Draws 10,000 Attendees to Rotterdam, Focuses on Scaling Demand

The seventh edition of the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition took place May 19-21, 2026, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, convening 10,000 participants from 120 countries. The event was organized by the Sustainable Energy Council and RX Global in collaboration with the Dutch Government, the Province of Zuid-Holland, the City of Rotterdam, and the Port of Rotterdam.
Under the theme "Climate, Energy and National Security: Unlocking Hydrogen Demand to Meet Global Priorities," the Summit addressed the critical challenge of creating hydrogen demand at scale. The event highlighted how governments and businesses increasingly view hydrogen as essential to energy security and industrial competitiveness, alongside climate mitigation.
The Summit focused on hard-to-abate sectors including steel, shipping, refining, fertilisers, aviation, power generation, and heavy-duty mobility. Industry speakers emphasized that mandates, offtake incentives, and targeted industrial policy are essential mechanisms to drive investment and accelerate deployment.
Notably, the event featured dedicated Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) and Energy Storage zones for the first time, reflecting the need for integrated energy solutions. His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands attended the opening day and witnessed the ceremonial handover of the first section of the Gasunie hydrogen pipeline network.
Organizers confirmed the World Hydrogen Summit will return to Rotterdam in May 2027.
