Uniper Secures Planning Permission for 120MW Green Hydrogen Plant in Killingholme

North Lincolnshire Council has approved planning permission for Uniper's Humber H2ub® (Green) project, marking a significant regulatory milestone for the development. The facility will be constructed at Uniper's existing Killingholme power station site in Killingholme.
The electrolytic hydrogen production plant will have an initial installed capacity of 120MWe, with potential for future expansion of an additional 200MWe or more. The planning decision was issued on March 20, following a public consultation period that concluded with the company's October application to North Lincolnshire Council.
The produced hydrogen will comply with the UK Government's Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard. According to the announcement, the facility is planned to begin supplying hydrogen to Phillips 66 Limited's Humber Refinery from 2029 as part of the refinery's efforts to reduce Scope 1 emissions.
The project was previously shortlisted in the UK Government's Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) program in April. Guy Phillips, Team Lead for Business Development Hydrogen at Uniper in the UK, stated the planning permission represents "an important milestone" and "another step towards realising industrial scale low carbon hydrogen production in the Humber."
