Uniper Opens Capacity Booking for Wilhelmshaven Hydrogen Import Terminal

Uniper Hydrogen GmbH has initiated an Open Season process to allocate capacity at its planned Hydrogen Import Terminal in Wilhelmshaven, a key infrastructure project for Germany's hydrogen network.
The terminal will import hydrogen via ammonia shipments. Upon arrival, ammonia will be cracked on-site using large-scale cracking equipment, with the resulting hydrogen fed into Germany's core hydrogen network. The facility will also include rail loading infrastructure for ammonia transportation.
The terminal is designed to handle up to 2.6 million tons of ammonia annually, corresponding to approximately 350,000 tons of hydrogen, positioning it as a significant component of Germany's future hydrogen infrastructure.
The Open Season operates in two phases. In Phase 1, interested market participants submit an Expression of Interest indicating their desired capacity and paying a participation fee, followed by capacity confirmation. Phase 2 involves issuing Heads of Terms as the basis for developing Terminal Use Agreements with participating shippers, culminating in binding capacity bookings.
Interested parties must register and submit required documentation for Know Your Customer (KYC) and creditworthiness checks by June 15, 2026, at 23:59 CEST via email at [email protected] to receive further participation details and timelines.
