UK Government Allocates £86 Million to ITM Power for Hydrogen Electrolyser Expansion

British electrolyser manufacturer ITM Power has secured £86 million in government funding to expand its hydrogen technology operations. Great British Energy, the UK's publicly-owned clean energy company, is providing £40 million—its largest investment to date in domestic clean power. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has additionally agreed in principle to grant £46.5 million.
The investment will support a major expansion of hydrogen technology manufacturing at ITM's Sheffield facility in Yorkshire. The expansion is expected to create approximately 400 new jobs and increase the site's output capacity by 1GW.
The funding reflects the UK government's commitment to developing its green hydrogen sector and supporting domestic manufacturing capabilities in clean energy technologies.
