Spanish Hydrogen Association Signs Five International Agreements to Advance Green Hydrogen Collaboration

In March 2026, the Asociación Española del Hidrógeno (AeH2) formalized five memorandums of understanding in Seville with the Hydrogen Energy Association (UK), GIZ (Germany), H2 Peru, the Mexican Hydrogen Society, and Hydrogen Colombia. These agreements aim to strengthen international collaboration on green hydrogen production and align with Spain's updated roadmap to install 12 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030.
The partnerships will facilitate joint research and development, expertise sharing, supply chain synchronization, and project acceleration across Europe and Latin America. Key collaborative focuses include digital monitoring systems, unified hydrogen quality standards, and workforce training programs.
Spain's hydrogen strategy is supported by substantial EU funding mechanisms, including a €440 million aid scheme and the European Hydrogen Bank auctions. Domestically, Spain's Recovery and Resilience Facility has allocated €1.5 billion for renewables and hydrogen, while the Just Transition Mechanism supports worker retraining in former coal regions.
Over 100 project proposals across Spain total more than 26 GW of capacity, supported by more than €3 billion in public funding. Full-scale deployment could reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 1.79 million tonnes annually and generate export revenues potentially exceeding €500 million by 2030. The H2Med corridor will serve as a key distribution and export route, connecting Spain with France, Portugal, and Germany.
Implementation is expected to progress through joint feasibility studies in 2026–2027, pilot plant deployment in 2028–2029, and commercial roll-out by 2030.
