Simon Fraser University and Siemens Canada Sign Partnership to Advance Hydrogen Research

Simon Fraser University (SFU) and Siemens Canada have established a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance research collaboration on clean hydrogen technologies and expand innovation opportunities between the institution and industry.
Under the agreement, SFU and Siemens will jointly identify and evaluate opportunities to co-develop research projects supporting hydrogen production, performance testing, and digital transformation. Siemens will contribute expertise in automation, smart microgrids, energy management, and cybersecurity.
The partnership leverages SFU's Clean Hydrogen Hub, described as one of the university's core facilities and flagship research platforms that brings together academia, industry, government, and community partners. The collaboration will focus on advancing hydrogen innovation while supporting Canada's Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) policy.
Dugan O'Neil, SFU's vice-president of research and innovation, stated that the partnership "strengthens our ability to translate research into impact, advancing hydrogen technologies, supporting Canada's clean-energy priorities and creating opportunities for our students, researchers and partners."
Faisal Kazi, President and CEO of Siemens Canada, noted that the collaboration aims to "advance hydrogen innovation that will strengthen Canada's clean-energy leadership and support a more sustainable, competitive economy."
