Port of La Spezia Completes Italy's First Hydrogen Bunkering Operation

The Port of La Spezia has successfully completed Italy's first hydrogen bunkering operation at a dockside facility. Bluenergy Revolution conducted the hydrogen transfer from a mobile land vehicle to a vessel at the Baglietto Shipyard using low-pressure metal hydride storage technology.
The technology employed in the operation is the same system used by the Italian Navy's U212 submarines. The operation was authorized by the Eastern Ligurian Sea Port Authority and followed a comprehensive multi-phase safety protocol before being declared successful.
The completion of this bunkering operation establishes a proof-of-concept for low-pressure hydrogen transfer in an operational port environment, demonstrating the feasibility of hydrogen fueling infrastructure at maritime facilities in Italy.
