Plug Power Awarded FEED Contract for 275 MW Electrolyzer System in Hy2gen's Canadian Ammonia Project

Plug Power has been selected to supply a 275 MW GenEco PEM electrolyzer system for Hy2gen's Courant project in Baie-Comeau, Québec, Canada. The electrolyzer will support production of low-carbon ammonia using hydroelectric power from Hydro-Québec's grid.
The Courant project is being developed as one of North America's largest decarbonized ammonium nitrate facilities, targeting the mining industry across Québec, Central and Eastern Canada. The ammonia produced will be processed into renewable ammonium nitrate for mining explosives applications.
Under the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) contract, Plug Power will perform advanced engineering and system design work, including electrolyzer integration, plant configuration, and performance optimization. The Baie-Comeau site benefits from access to low-carbon hydroelectric resources, established industrial and distribution infrastructure, and a deep-water port.
Plug Power CEO Jose Luis Crespo stated the award demonstrates the company's capability to support large-scale hydrogen and hydrogen-derived product projects, noting that the gigafactory enables handling projects of this magnitude. Hy2gen CEO Cyril Dufau-Sansot emphasized the collaboration combines both companies' expertise in project development and electrolyzer technology for large-scale industrial decarbonization.
This project builds on previous collaborations between Plug and Hy2gen on renewable hydrogen projects in Europe and ongoing hydrogen supply arrangements.
