PHINIA Debuts First Homologated Hydrogen Combustion Engine Light Commercial Vehicle at ACT Expo 2026

PHINIA INC. announced it will exhibit at ACT Expo 2026 (May 4-7, Las Vegas Convention Center) featuring its first homologated hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2ICE) light commercial vehicle certified for on-road use.
Developed in collaboration with Aramco, the H2ICE van is compliant with Euro 7 emissions standards and delivers up to 99% reduction in tailpipe CO₂ emissions compared with diesel engines. The vehicle offers a real-world driving range of up to 500 kilometers and can accommodate up to six passengers, making it suitable for light commercial and public transport applications.
The vehicle integrates PHINIA's proprietary hydrogen injection technology with advanced combustion systems. According to Todd Anderson, Chief Technology Officer at PHINIA, the homologation demonstrates that existing engine architectures can be adapted to run on gaseous fuels with minimal modifications while maintaining performance standards comparable to conventional diesel systems.
PHINIA positions its hydrogen combustion approach as an alternative to fuel-cell technologies, leveraging the existing internal combustion engine ecosystem. The solution is adaptable across multiple vehicle types and can be tailored to original equipment manufacturer specifications.
Event attendees will have the opportunity to experience the hydrogen-powered vehicle through ACT Expo's Ride & Drive passenger sessions. PHINIA's booth will also showcase its broader portfolio including hydrogen direct injection systems, gasoline direct injection, CNG systems, and electrification-supporting technologies.
