OMV Petrom Receives First Electrolyser Module for 20 MW Green Hydrogen Project at Petrobrazi

OMV Petrom, South-Eastern Europe's largest integrated energy producer, has announced the delivery of the first electrolyser module for green hydrogen production at its Petrobrazi refinery. This milestone marks progress toward completing a 20 MW green hydrogen facility designed to support the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
The electrolyser module, supplied by Germany-based Neuman & Esser, will be installed and connected to the power network. Three additional modules are scheduled for delivery in the coming months. Site construction, unloading, and module integration are being handled by Kraftanlagen Romania in partnership with local suppliers.
Once operational, the facility will produce approximately 3,000 tons of green hydrogen annually to support biofuel production at Petrobrazi. The project aligns with Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) targets and represents part of OMV Petrom's energy transition strategy to support low-emission mobility.
The 20 MW green hydrogen project has received approximately EUR 21 million in non-reimbursable funding through Romania's PNRR program.
