Next Hydrogen Secures $3.75M in Nuclear Electrolyzer Demonstration Contracts

Next Hydrogen Solutions Inc., a Mississauga-based electrolyzer specialist, has secured two demonstration contracts totaling $3.75 million for designing and deploying customized electrolyzer systems built to nuclear-grade standards. This represents the company's first foray into nuclear-powered hydrogen production.
The demonstration units will integrate Next Hydrogen's in-house electrolyzer stacks with balance-of-plant equipment and power-conditioning systems to split water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from nuclear reactors. The systems feature high-efficiency membrane stacks, modular power electronics, and advanced control platforms designed for nuclear site requirements, including seamless integration with nuclear steam lines, corrosion-resistant construction, real-time monitoring, and modular architecture for maintenance alignment with scheduled outages.
The contracts arrive following Next Hydrogen's recent $20.7 million private equity placement in late 2025 and the company's launch of Ontario's largest onsite clean hydrogen fueling station. These deals signal a strategic expansion from the company's traditional focus on mobility and small-scale fueling applications toward utility-scale hydrogen infrastructure.
The projects address growing interest in pairing nuclear power with hydrogen production to provide reliable, baseload clean hydrogen for industrial decarbonization. Over the next year, Next Hydrogen will complete detailed engineering, install demonstration modules during reactor downtimes, and conduct performance validation trials.
