Moeve and Enagás Launch European Alliance for Green Hydrogen Production and Infrastructure

Moeve and Enagás have officially launched the European Alliance for Green Hydrogen and its Derivatives (ERA), joined by additional European partners, to coordinate hydrogen development and infrastructure across the continent. The alliance aims to link projects spanning hydrogen production, storage, transport, and end-use applications while supporting industrial decarbonization.
ERA operates within the framework of the European Green Deal, which targets net-zero emissions by 2050 and at least a 55% greenhouse gas reduction by 2030. The alliance seeks to pool demand signals for electrolysers, convert existing natural gas pipelines for hydrogen transport, and facilitate cross-border hydrogen and ammonia trading.
Moeve brings experience in renewable energy development and green hydrogen production via electrolysis, while Enagás is upgrading Spain's gas infrastructure to handle hydrogen blends and pure hydrogen. Together, they are positioning Spain as a hydrogen hub and supporting the EU's development of a domestic clean-fuel supply chain.
The initiative aligns with ongoing EU policy mechanisms including the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and REPowerEU. ERA plans to advance electrolyser deployment, pilot sites for hydrogen production facilities, and harmonized standards for cross-border hydrogen trade. Key priorities include securing financing from EU climate funds and establishing unified safety standards and certification systems.
Industrial decarbonization remains a primary focus, as energy-related emissions constitute over three-quarters of EU greenhouse gases, with hard-to-abate sectors like chemicals, steel, and heavy transport requiring hydrogen-based solutions.
