Kimberly-Clark Secures Hydrogen Supply from Carlton Power Facility in UK

Kimberly-Clark, producer of Andrex and Kleenex brands, has secured a hydrogen supply deal from the upcoming Carlton Power facility in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Schroders Greencoat and Carlton Power announced a final investment decision on the 30MW hydrogen project, which is expected to become operational in 2028.
The hydrogen supply is expected to significantly reduce the Kimberly-Clark Barrow site's natural gas consumption by up to 50%, resulting in an estimated reduction of 18,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Construction of the facility is set to begin in the coming weeks, according to Labour MP Michelle Scrogham. The project will generate approximately 200 jobs during the construction phase, with 10 to 15 permanent full-time positions expected once the facility becomes operational.
UK Minister for Energy Michael Shanks described the project as showcasing "the UK's thriving hydrogen industry" and noted its importance in reducing reliance on fossil fuels while driving investment and job creation in Cumbria and across the United Kingdom.
