INERATEC and TERTU Form Joint Venture to Build Synthetic Fuel Plant in Normandy

INERATEC and TERTU have formed the joint venture T.H2 to develop a synthetic fuel production facility near Caen in Normandy, France. The plant will be built as part of the "BELair" project, with partners preparing an application to the European Innovation Fund.
The facility will process approximately 60,000 tonnes of wood residues annually sourced from regional forests and industries. Through gasification, the wood residues will be converted into synthesis gas, which INERATEC's Gas-to-Liquids technology will transform into sustainable synthetic hydrocarbons, including e-SAF for aviation and e-Naphtha base chemicals.
INERATEC contributes its modular synthesis gas conversion technology and experience operating commercial-scale e-Fuel plants, including ERA ONE, Europe's first commercial-scale e-Fuel facility commissioned in 2025. TERTU provides expertise in wood residue collection, processing, and industrial operations, along with established partnerships in the Normandy region.
The project aims to create a circular industrial value chain by converting local biomass resources into sustainable fuels supporting decarbonization of aviation and other difficult-to-abate sectors. Development is currently underway with commissioning targeted for 2029. The Franco-German partnership is supported by BPI France and Région Normandie/EAFRD.
