Hyundai Motor Group and Georgia Tech Establish Partnership for Hydrogen Mobility Research

Hyundai Motor Group and the Georgia Institute of Technology have expanded their collaboration through a memorandum of understanding focused on hydrogen mobility development and research. The partnership includes a donation of four NEXO fuel cell electric SUVs from Hyundai Motor North America and a hydrogen electrolyzer project to be installed at Georgia Tech's North Avenue Research Area (NARA).
The vehicles and infrastructure will support campus operations and interdisciplinary research across multiple disciplines, including engineering, sustainability, energy systems, and public policy. Research focus areas include real-world hydrogen technology performance, infrastructure requirements for large-scale deployment, and environmental impacts of hydrogen energy systems.
Georgia Tech will serve as a real-world testbed for hydrogen mobility solutions. The partnership extends beyond hydrogen to include collaborative research in autonomous driving, electric vehicle batteries, charging infrastructure, materials science, and cybersecurity.
Hyundai Motor Group maintains a significant presence in Georgia through its Metaplant America facility and HTWO Logistics, which operates hydrogen fuel cell heavy-duty trucks in logistics operations near Savannah. The collaboration aims to accelerate hydrogen adoption across campuses, fleets, cities, and freight corridors while supporting Georgia Tech's strategic goal of expanding zero-emissions vehicles powered by sustainable energy sources. Additional research projects, educational programs, and vehicle deployment announcements are expected in the coming months.
