Hyundai Motor Group and Eight Partners Sign MOU to Build Hong Kong Hydrogen Ecosystem by 2030

Nine industry leaders from Korea, mainland China, France, and Hong Kong signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding on May 18, 2026, at the International Hydrogen Development Symposium to establish a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem in Hong Kong.
Spearheaded by Hyundai Motor Group, the collaboration targets full operational status by the end of 2030. The partnership will focus on developing waste-to-hydrogen technologies to convert landfill gas into clean energy and piloting liquefied hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. The initiative also plans to deploy customised hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles, including tour and airport shuttle buses.
The partnership includes Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, China Inspection Co Ltd, Chun Wo Bus Services Limited, Chun Wo Construction & Engineering Company Limited, Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment Co Ltd, JEA ENG, Templewater Limited, the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited, and Veolia Hong Kong Holding Limited.
The collaboration establishes an end-to-end hydrogen industry chain spanning production, storage, transportation, refuelling, and utilisation. Hong Kong's government indicated that over 30 hydrogen trial projects have been approved to date, with plans to establish public hydrogen filling facilities on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, and development of the GBA Hydrogen Corridor with Guangdong Province.
