HYBOR Hydrogen Pipeline Project Launches Ground Investigations Across Eastern Germany

The HYBOR hydrogen pipeline project has entered its scoping phase across all affected federal states in Eastern Germany. GASCADE is conducting environmental mapping and ground investigations along the planned route to assess local conditions and inform the environmental impact assessment process.
The approximately 120-kilometre pipeline will run from Bobbau in Saxony-Anhalt through Saxony to Rückersdorf in Thuringia. It is designed to connect existing pipelines that will be converted for hydrogen transport, closing a critical gap in Germany's emerging hydrogen network infrastructure.
Preparatory investigations began in late 2025 and will inform the planning approval procedure, scheduled to commence in 2026. The pipeline is targeted for completion by 2029 as part of GASCADE's 'Flow – making hydrogen happen' infrastructure program.
Once operational, HYBOR will enable reliable hydrogen transport to regional industries, storage facilities, and other consumers, supporting the development of climate-neutral energy supply in the three states. GASCADE plans to hold public information events in May 2026 across the affected regions, where stakeholders can learn about project progress, ask questions, and raise concerns directly with the project team.
