Holland Hydrogen 1 Plant Connected to Dutch National Hydrogen Pipeline Network

Gasunie subsidiary Hynetwork has successfully connected the Holland Hydrogen 1 plant to the Dutch hydrogen network, marking the first direct connection of a green hydrogen producer to national infrastructure. The 200 MW facility at Rotterdam Maasvlakte was connected via a 'golden weld' performed by contractor Hanab.
The connection follows completion of the first 32 kilometers of hydrogen pipeline earlier this year. The pipeline largely runs parallel to the A15 highway within an existing energy corridor and was constructed by Hynetwork.
The project involved close coordination with the Porthos CO2 pipeline project, with the two pipelines running only 40 centimeters apart over a 19-kilometer stretch. Jan Willem Rongen, Project Manager of the Rotterdam Hydrogen Network, emphasized that intensive collaboration between Hynetwork, Porthos, and construction partners HANAB and Denys was essential for coordinating schedules, resolving problems, and ensuring safety.
Gasunie plans to expand the hydrogen network further in coming years by adding new producers and consumers. The company aims to develop a national network that ultimately connects industrial clusters across north-western Europe, supporting industrial decarbonization in the Netherlands and the broader region.
