France Approves €144 Million in State Aid for 50 MW Electrolyzer Project

Hynamics has received €144 million in French state aid for its 50 MW ABC Ottmarsheim electrolyzer project, approved by the European Commission. The facility, located at LAT Nitrogen's site in the Ottmarsheim-Chalampé industrial zone in Haut-Rhin, France, will produce 6,600 tonnes of renewable, low-carbon hydrogen annually.
The hydrogen output will enable production of 36,000 tonnes of carbon-free ammonia per year at LAT Nitrogen's fertilizers and industrial chemicals facility. The project is designed to replace up to 15% of the hydrogen currently sourced from fossil fuels in ammonia production.
According to project specifications, the electrolyzer will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% compared to traditional production methods and avoid more than 46,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
The state aid takes the form of a direct grant covering part of investment costs, including electrolyzer construction and associated infrastructure. Christelle Rouillé, CEO of Hynamics, stated the support demonstrates the importance of innovative investments in energy transition and European energy sovereignty. Leo Alders, CEO of LAT Nitrogen, characterized the project as a decisive step in transforming the company's production footprint and reducing the CO₂ intensity of ammonia production.
