FEnEx CRC and Pacific Energy Progress Stage 2 Hydrogen Production at Kwinana Hub

The Future Energy Exports Cooperative Research Centre (FEnEx CRC) has advanced Stage 2 of the Kwinana Energy Transformation Hub (KETH) by securing equipment and commencing Front End Engineering Design (FEED) work with Pacific Energy.
FEnEx CRC contracted Pacific Energy to supply two NEL Series 4 C30 electrolysers and conduct FEED for the Hydrogen Process Plant. The Stage 2 facility will be located south of the Stage 1 R&D building currently under construction in Kwinana Strategic Industrial Area.
Once operational, the facility will produce 130 kg per day of gaseous hydrogen for research and testing, and 100 kg per day of liquid hydrogen for pilot-scale demonstrations. The hub will provide a practical industrial environment for hydrogen technology trials and real-world testing before large-scale commercial deployment, while supporting workforce development and skills training in hydrogen operations.
Construction of the hydrogen process plant is expected to commence in late 2026, following FEED completion and relevant approvals. FEnEx CRC CEO Professor Eric May stated the project creates an industrial testing platform to reduce risk for industry and accelerate technology development. The WA Government's Investment Attraction Fund grant supports the project, which aligns with the state's Diversify WA strategy and the Australian Government's Future Made in Australia agenda.
