EVOLOH Deploys 2.5 MW Hydrogen Electrolyzer at 3M Manufacturing Facility

EVOLOH has initiated deployment of its S440 electrolyzer system at a 3M manufacturing facility, marking the company's largest real-world installation to date. The 2.5 MW pilot project is designed to support emissions-reduction applications at the plant while operating behind the meter with intermittent power sources.
The S440 system utilizes EVOLOH's Nautilus electrolyzer stack, which employs anion exchange membrane (AEM) technology to produce hydrogen without corrosive electrolytes, precious metals, or rare-earth materials. The project qualifies for the federal Clean Hydrogen Production Tax Credit (45V).
The collaboration expands an existing relationship between the companies. 3M Ventures invested in EVOLOH's $20 million Series A funding round in 2024 and currently supplies sealing materials for the company's electrolyzer manufacturing. Through this pilot, 3M serves simultaneously as investor, materials supplier, and deployment site.
EVOLOH CEO Dr. Jimmy Rojas stated that operating at commercial scale within a demanding industrial environment validates the technology's readiness beyond laboratory conditions. The joint pilot program will collect operational data to inform future deployments, with both companies emphasizing the importance of real-world validation for hydrogen technology advancement.
