European Commission Approves €144 Million in Funding for Hynamics' ABC Ottmarsheim Hydrogen Project

The European Commission has officially approved €144 million in French funding for Hynamics' ABC Ottmarsheim project under EU state aid rules. The initiative will support the construction and operation of a 50 MW renewable and low-carbon hydrogen production facility located in the Ottmarsheim-Chalampé industrial zone in Haut-Rhin, France.
The electrolyser will produce approximately 6,600 tonnes of renewable, low-carbon hydrogen annually, enabling the production of 36,000 tonnes of carbon-free ammonia by LAT Nitrogen, a fertilizer and industrial chemicals producer. By replacing up to 15% of hydrogen currently derived from fossil fuels, the project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% compared to traditional production methods, preventing more than 46,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
The European Commission recognized the project as promoting strategic economic activity essential to the EU's energy transition goals, aligning with the EU Hydrogen Strategy and the Renewable Energy Directive. State aid in the form of a direct grant will cover part of the investment costs, including electrolyser construction and associated infrastructure.
Hynamics CEO Christelle Rouillé emphasized the project's importance for energy transition and sovereignty, while LAT Nitrogen CEO Leo Alders highlighted the collaboration's role in reducing CO₂ intensity and strengthening competitiveness during industry transformation.
