Enagás Renovable Announces €2.5 Billion Investment Plan to Develop 250 MW Green Hydrogen Capacity by 2030

Enagás Renovable, the renewable gases division of Enagás, has outlined plans to invest as much as €2.5 billion to scale green hydrogen and biomethane production across Spain. The company aims to achieve 250 MW of green hydrogen capacity by 2030, representing approximately 6% of Spain's national target of 4 GW electrolysis capacity.
The company currently operates more than 20 renewable gas projects aligned with Spain's national Hydrogen and Biogas Roadmaps and EU decarbonization initiatives. Key facilities include the Lloseta Green Hydrogen Plant in Mallorca—Spain's first industrial-scale green hydrogen facility—and the UNUE Biomethane Plant in Burgos, the country's inaugural large-scale private biomethane upgrading facility.
The broader project pipeline exceeds 700 MW, accounting for nearly 20% of Spain's national hydrogen ambition. The Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley project in Huelva, developed in partnership with Cepsa and Alter Enersun, will feature a 200 MW electrolysis plant co-located with photovoltaic arrays at Cepsa's Energy Park.
Enagás Renovable has established strategic partnerships including a 30% stake in Hy24's Clean H2 Infra Fund and collaborations with VERBUND to fund and operate new electrolysis and biomethane upgrading facilities. These projects target hard-to-abate sectors including refining, chemicals, fertilizers, and heavy industry while supporting zero-emission transportation development.
