Colombia and Germany Advance Green Hydrogen Partnership Through High-Level Delegation Meetings

A delegation of Colombian energy companies conducted meetings in Berlin and Hamburg with German government officials, research institutions, and port operators to advance green hydrogen production initiatives.
The Colombian representatives engaged with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and toured hydrogen research facilities. Hamburg's port is developing hydrogen infrastructure, including a planned 100 MW electrolyser at the Moorburg site and an ammonia import terminal operated by Mabanaft.
Colombia has established over ten pilot plants for low-carbon hydrogen production from renewable sources and signed a memorandum with the Fraunhofer Society to study export potential from Caribbean coastal regions. The country's Hydrogen Roadmap targets scalable green hydrogen output to reduce emissions and create export opportunities.
The collaboration builds on existing frameworks, including Germany's H2-diplo program and the binational High-Level Green Hydrogen Committee. The LAC H2 Summit has previously convened approximately 500 stakeholders—financiers, policymakers, and industry participants—to develop hydrogen offtake agreements.
Port infrastructure is central to the strategy. Hamburg is developing terminal facilities for ammonia and hydrogen storage carriers, while Colombian regions including Atlántico, Bolívar, and Valle del Cauca are designated for export-oriented hydrogen hubs connecting renewable energy sources to electrolysers and shipping terminals.
The meetings facilitate knowledge transfer on German technical standards, logistics, and financing models for large-scale electrolysis projects.
