Brandenburg eSAF Project Awarded €350 Million in German Federal Funding

Federal Minister Katherina Reiche and Brandenburg Minister-President Dietmar Woidke officially presented the grant award letter for the Brandenburg eSAF project in Schwedt. The federal government and state of Brandenburg are jointly providing €350 million in funding for the initiative.
The facility, developed by renewable energy company ENERTRAG and e-SAF specialist ZAFFRA—a joint venture between Danish firm Topsoe and South African company Sasol—will produce sustainable aviation fuels (eSAF) at industrial scale at the PCK refinery. The project represents a total investment exceeding €500 million.
Brandenburg eSAF is positioned among Europe's most advanced power-to-liquid (PtL) projects. The facility is designed to cover approximately 25% of Germany's national eSAF blending obligation under the EU's ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, which mandates sustainable fuel blending requirements for aircraft.
