BP and Iberdrola Near Commissioning of Spain's Largest Green Hydrogen Plant

Castellón Green Hydrogen, a joint venture between BP and Iberdrola España, has completed 90% of the assembly phase for its 25 MW green hydrogen project, with all equipment including a Plug Power electrolyzer system now on site. The facility involves approximately 25 Spanish companies in its construction. Commissioning and equipment testing are scheduled to begin in May 2026, when the project is expected to become Spain's largest operating green hydrogen facility.
Meanwhile, Moeve has greenlit construction of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, with the first phase—Onuba—designed for 300 MW capacity and expandable by an additional 100 MW. The project represents over €1 billion in total investment, including associated infrastructure and a self-consumption photovoltaic plant. Moeve holds a 51% majority stake, with Masdar and Enalter as additional partners.
In related developments, ITM has completed delivery of stacks to RWE's electrolyzer facility in Lingen, Germany, which will comprise two 100 MW lines capable of producing 3,600 kg of hydrogen per hour. Italian gas operator Snam has committed €200 million through 2030 for developing a hydrogen backbone infrastructure, utilizing approximately 60% existing gas pipelines for conversion. Additionally, Hyundai Motor Group signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korean authorities to establish an AI and hydrogen technology hub with planned investment of KRW 9 trillion (€5.27 billion) from 2026.
