BMW Group Contracts Lhyfe for Green Hydrogen Supply to Austrian Fuel Cell Production Site

Lhyfe has been selected under a multi-year agreement to deliver green hydrogen to BMW Group's Steyr site in Austria for fuel cell development and manufacturing activities.
The Steyr facility is responsible for series development and industrialization of BMW Group's hydrogen fuel cell systems. The site will prepare for mass production of fuel cell systems for the BMW X5 model, with the company's third-generation hydrogen propulsion system scheduled for production beginning in 2028.
The green hydrogen supply will support series development, industrialization, testing, and validation activities at the location. BMW Group's third-generation hydrogen system is designed to be more compact, more powerful, and more efficient than previous versions, while increasing range and power while reducing energy consumption.
Lhyfe was selected based on its renewable hydrogen production capabilities and logistics expertise. The company operates one of the European Union's largest bulk hydrogen transport fleets, completing more than 850 deliveries across Europe in 2025. Lhyfe currently operates four RFNBO-certified production sites in France and Germany with combined capacity of up to 8.5 tonnes per day, with plans to commission two additional sites in France by year-end. This BMW Group contract marks Lhyfe's first hydrogen deliveries in Austria.
