ATOME Reaches Final Investment Decision on Green Fertilizer Plant in Paraguay

ATOME has reached final investment decision (FID) on its green hydrogen fertilizer production facility in Villeta, Paraguay. The plant will produce 260,000 tonnes per year of low-carbon Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) fertilizer, utilizing 100% renewable baseload hydropower to eliminate dependence on fossil fuel volatility.
The project is positioned as the first industrial-scale green hydrogen fertilizer plant and targets Latin America's fertilizer import market. Over its operational lifetime, the facility is projected to displace up to 12.5 million tonnes of CO₂e.
Key project partners include CASALE as the Swiss engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor; Yara International as the offtaker; and Hy24 as leader of the investor consortium. ATOME will originate, develop, and manage the plant through construction and operation phases.
ATOME CEO Olivier Mussat stated that reaching FID at Villeta represents "a defining achievement for ATOME." Construction is expected to commence shortly following FID, with full production targeted for October 2029 or earlier.
