Air Products to Build Europe's Largest Liquid Hydrogen Production Facility in Rotterdam

Air Products is advancing construction of a liquid hydrogen production facility in the Port of Rotterdam that will become Europe's largest when it begins operations in 2027. The liquefier will strengthen the company's hydrogen capabilities in the Netherlands and connect with its existing hydrogen distribution infrastructure in Rotterdam's industrial cluster.
The facility is being developed in response to customer demand across multiple sectors, including electronics manufacturing, space applications, industrial processing, and emerging energy applications. Air Products plans to supply the liquefier through its integrated regional hydrogen network, utilizing multiple hydrogen sources within the industrial cluster.
Once operational, the facility will provide liquid hydrogen supply alternatives to customers throughout the Benelux region, France, Germany, and the UK. Liquid hydrogen's properties enable transportation over longer distances compared to gaseous hydrogen, expanding the geographic reach of Air Products' supply network.
Miquel Lope, Vice President of Northern Continent at Air Products, stated the project reflects the company's commitment to supply reliability as customer needs grow. Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, noted that the investment strengthens infrastructure required for industrial decarbonization and provides reliable local hydrogen supply for regional businesses.
